Planning Matters
The new Planning & Design Code is the biggest change to the State’s planning laws in a generation.
In February 2020 FOWB responded to the State Planning Commission's Phase 3 consultation process in collaboration with Friends of Pt Willunga. A link to our submission follows below. It strongly supports considered and orderly urban development, supported by a planning system that incorporates strong heritage policy and environmental settings which recognize the need for both sustainable development and a robust response to climate change. Read the final submission here.
Development across the Willunga Basin
FOWB actively monitors and, where appropriate, makes representations regarding Development Applications within the Willunga Basin, often in concert with Friends of Pt Willunga. Over time, we have made representations concerning:
the On The Run service station at Old Aldinga, which was effectively re-designed by FOWB;
Aldi at Old Aldinga, where signage heights were reduced and changes were made to landscaping;
the proposed Winwest development opposite Aldinga Shopping Centre, with FOWB joining Council in an ERD Court appeal against an approval previously granted;
Vigena Wines on Main South Rd at McLaren Vale, which was completely redesigned as a result;
a proposed 3 story, 82 room motel on Field St in McLaren Vale;
several matters regarding the felling of Significant Trees around the district.
In a similar vein, we have made representations to Renewal SA and Onkaparinga Council in respect of the future development of the broad acre land between Old Aldinga and Aldinga Beach Rd, and the future of the Port Rd Triangle.
Other matters of current interest and activity include:
the development of a safe cycling route from Willunga to Aldinga;
the duplication of Main South Road; and
the preservation of the Old Sellicks Hill Rd.
We continue to discuss planning issues at every Committee meeting and make representations to Council and the State Government.
